UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS
Requirements
FIRST-YEAR STUDENT ADMISSION
The Ignatius University welcomes applications for admission
from men and women regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation,
religion, age as defined by law, handicap, national origin, or financial
condition. Selection is based primarily on academic promise as indicated
by secondary school performance, recommendations, and standardized test
( SAT, ACT) scores. Secondarily, decisions reflect consideration of the
individual experience and particular circumstances unique to each candidate.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
A secondary diploma or G.E.D. equivalency is usually required
for admission to the Ignatius University. Typically academic preparation
should include four years of English; three years of mathematics; three
years of science; two years both of a social science and a foreign language;
and other credit electives. However, the University values diversity and
understands that some students may have different high school curricular
patterns.
REGULAR ADMISSION
Applications of candidates are considered on a continuous
basis and admissions are on-going all during the year. Once accepted,
a student may begin course work immediately.
INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS
The Test of English as a Foreign Language ( TOEFL ) is
required of all candidates whose native or official language is not English.
TOEFL results for successful applicants are usually at least 500.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATUS
All CLEP exams are accepted. The Advanced Placement Tests
of the College entrance Examination Board are accepted. Advanced Standing
may also be earned by transfer; presentation of an official transcript
of college level course work is required.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS
The University welcomes applications for admission with
advanced standing from students attending two- and four-year institutions.
TRANSFER CREDIT
Normally credit is given for academic courses in the liberal
arts previously taken at accredited colleges and universities and for
AP and CLEP as described above. No credit is given for any work where
the score/grade was not in the passing range.
PORTFOLIO EVALUATION
The University is willing to examine previous employment
experiences and related non-collegiate education. However, students presenting
this type of material have usually been in the work force for many years.

Ignatius University
Since Ignatius University attaches central importance to its Humanistic
Studies, the student is offered the option of taking the same course at
both Ignatius University and Sofia University simultaneously.This provides
a deeper understanding and richness to the course. In all your studies at
Ignatius University keep before you at all times the words of Cavafy.
Ithaca
When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them.

Since Ignatius University is a new educational institution, regional accreditation
has not yet been attained. During this interim period, students may avail
themselves of the Dual Degree program i.e. the student may be awarded two
degrees at graduation - one from Ignatius University and the other from
a regionally accredited college.
At this time, an agreement has been arranged with Excelsior College for
those students in the American Institute for Creative Living residential
program in Staten Island, New York and the Distance Learn Program and with
local colleges for those students in the residential program in Indianapolis,
Indiana. In addition, students may opt to do certain studies at both the
New York campus and the Indianapolis campus. However, to receive the certain
degrees, the student must complete a specific number of credits at the partricular
college. Some courses use a combination of classroom and distance learning
with the distinguished faculty of Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria.
The curriculum at Ignatius University places heavy emphasis upon the humanistic
tradition. This intensive and systematic exploration of the history, literature,
philosophy, theology, art and music of the Ancient, Medieval, Modern and
Contemporary periods is probably unique in the current educational scene
world wide. However, it is the firm commitment of Ignatius University that
its graduates be cultivated, educated and sophisticated with an ability
to evaluate critically and to solve crreatively current needs and problems
with the wisdom only gained from an in depth view of civilization.
The program also allows as many as 42 credits to be used toward used towards
the student's particular major (30 credits) and optional electives (12 credits).
Ignatius University currently offers four majors: Theology, Philosophy,
Psychology and Political Science (Diplomacy). These majors, undergraduate
and graduate, are detailed in the respective Schools of the University.

FUTURE DEGREES
In the future, Ignatius University expects undergraduate majors in the
new departments of Anthropology, Art and Architecture, Cinema and Theatre,
Classical and Near Eastern Studies, Economics, English and Literature, Geography,
History, Languages (Ancient and Modern), Mathematics, Sociology. We do not
anticipate majors in the Natural Sciences. However, basic courses in the
Natural Sciences will be offered. Any majors not offered directly by Ignatius
University may be taken through affiliated institutions.
